ASIA - PACIFIC - CHINA - DEFENCE

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has slammed the Australian government for failing to notify the Pacific nation ahead of joining the AUKUS alliance.

The ABC also reported on Friday on a memorandum of understanding signed with one of China’s largest defence and aerospace companies that promised to upgrade almost three dozen airstrips in the Solomon Islands as part of an ambitious plan to transform the Pacific Islands country into an “aeronautical hub” for the region.

HISTORIC LIBERALS- AUSTRALIA SUPPLIED URANIUM TO RUSSIA

AUSTRALIA RECONSIDERS RUSSIA URANIUM DEAL

Former prime minister John Howard, signing the new treaty with then President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of Asia-Pacific leaders in Sydney, had said “stringent” controls would ensure uranium was not used in nuclear weapons.

But lawmakers considering whether the treaty should enter into force said on Monday that now Prime Minister Putin was unlikely to abide by the terms of a treaty and safeguards for the use of Australian uranium in Russia’s civilian nuclear industry.

The Labor government is refusing to sell nuclear fuel to India because it has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty. Australia is one of 35 International Atomic Energy Agency board members and already sells uranium to 36 nations.

1VOTER COMMENT - Who's running this country?

The Murdoch Press is calling for the ABC to be whacked with half a million dollar fines to muzzle its investigations into sitting Liberal MPs.1

This would have an unprecedented chilling effect on the ABC's journalism. But this is exactly what
we should expect from a fourth term Coalition Government.

LIBERALS SPELL END OF YOUR ABC

It’s official: The Liberals do not support public broadcasting and want to sell-off the ABC.

If Australians needed any more proof that the Liberals are on a mission to destroy the public broadcaster, they got it when the Liberal Federal Council voted to privatise the ABC.

The out of touch Liberals want to dismantle a vital institution in our democracy and silence the independent voice that has spoken to and of our nation for over 85 years.

Paul Fletcher has been accused of ‘ministerial incompetence’ by Labor after federal government paid $26.7m too much for land

SCOTT MORRISON'S FRIEND, HIS INDIGENOUS CHARITY AND THE MILLIONS IN DEFENCE CONTRACTS

Coleman’s work as CEO of Hillsong Emerge, the charitable arm of the Hillsong church, had been in the Labor party’s sights. Labor was probing the Howard government for vulnerabilities over its links to the mega-church amid fears Pentecostalism would lead to the rise of a new religious right. In 2005 and 2006 Leigh Coleman was mentioned many times in both the New South Wales and federal parliaments, but by the time Morrison stepped up in Canberra it seemed that nobody remembered him.

But over the past five years Coleman’s name may have become more familiar in government procurement circles thanks to a company he founded and runs winning more than $43m in federal contracts, mostly from defence, while being a registered charity set up to address Indigenous unemployment and disadvantage.

"Scott Morrison reveals 4 of his handpicked candidates for seats in the election. All Hillsong Cult members and all relatives of Alex Hawke"

ALEX HAWKE: THE POLITICAL ANIMAL WHO BECAME MORRISON’S MACHINE MAN - February -19, 2022

“(Alex) Hawke is part of Morrison’s inner circle, and in Canberra at least, that’s the source of his power. He was a crucial numbers man in that mad week of August 2018 that saw Morrison beat Peter Dutton to replace Malcolm Turnbull. He is also Morrison’s representative on the executive committee of the NSW Liberal Party, and as such is a key player in the ongoing civil war over pre selections - or lack thereof - in important NSW seats ahead of the federal election. The feud escalated this week with Morrison taking the first step toward federal intervention in his home state.

…….“But he’s (Hawke) a guy who is absolutely mesmerised by the transactional elements of politics and power. He’s just cut adrift from any kind of philosophical ballast.”

………(Morrison and Hawke) ”They also share a strong and similar faith; raised Anglican, Hawke now attends Hillsong Church.”

……….“A future Coalition government must heed the lessons of the Fraser government and focus on tackling the major economic challenges of our time, not continuing Labor’s expansion of the welfare state,” Hawke wrote.”

……”Many Liberals believe Hawke and Morrison have been delaying the process deliberately to justify intervening and installing their preferred candidates - with a significant number convinced it is Hawke driving the bus rather than Morrison.”

YES, RELIGION PLAYS A MORE PROMINENT ROLE IN POLITICS. BUT ‘SECULAR AUSTRALIA’ HAS ALWAYS BEEN A MYTH

Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s open adherence to Pentecostalism has also been a source of unease. After his first invitation to the media to film him attending service at Horizon Church during the election campaign in April 2019 and his subsequent election, numerous media articles and interviews with specialists have asked whether his religious affiliation influenced his decisions.

His most recent claim that he had been called to do “God’s work” just added to the general unease

PENSIONERS - THE ELDERLY

THE STATE OF ELDERLY POVERTY IN AUSTRALIA – THE BORGEN PROJECT

Elderly poverty is a very real threat, even in developed nations like Australia. In fact, almost a third of Australians on pension live in poverty. The poverty rate for all of Australia’s elderly aged 65 and up is 19.5% and this number increases to 28.7% in groups over 75. With such shockingly high numbers, the question is, how is Australia neglecting its elderly?

In 2016, an OECD report found that Australia spends more than 50% less of its GDP on pensions than other OECD countries. In fact, only 3.5% of the country’s GDP goes toward providing people with a pension. That leaves elderly people on a pension that is less than the median household income for Australia. The annual payment for one person is around $22,000. Considering the relatively high cost of living in Australia, this amount leaves many in need.
