A personal take on:
ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION VIA BOATS
AUSTRALIAS’ GUILT TRIP- INDONESIA LAUGHS WHILE AUSTRALIA SQUIRMS
The blame belongs with those responsible - Indonesia has treated Australia with complete disdain, essentially turning a blind eye to the people smugglers originating from their borders and hand-balling their gigantic problem onto Australia. Somehow the media has managed to blame Australia for the choices these illegals have made regarding embarking on a dangerous sea journey with people smugglers after they made safe landfall in Indonesia, a largely Muslim country. Then it apparently becomes Australia’s fault for standing strong on a well-publicised policy to protect our orders: no illegals will ever settle on Australian shores. Don’t we have the right to protect our borders? These illegals compound the problem for Australia by destroying their identity documents so we have no idea who we are dealing with.
Then for good measure Australia provides housing, medical care (allegedly 1 medico to 14 people), food etc. all at no cost to the illegals. The media uses terms such as ‘prisoners on Manus’, which is utter rubbish. I am sure that if they wished to leave (not to Australia) and could ‘manipulate it’ they would be permitted to do so with Australia’s blessing. Why is it our problem that ‘processing’ illegals is so difficult when they make the decision to destroy their own documentation? Why are illegals our problem and responsibility when the last safe landfall they made was Indonesia?
Australians have a massive guilt complex that is completely illogical. Per head of population we take on a far larger ratio of humanitarian immigrants than most developed countries and we support them with housing and social services that many native-born Australians can’t access, this is why illegal immigrants want to come here. Still we are vilified! Where is the personal responsibility here from the illegals and Indonesia?
If you believe that an asylum seeker is a person who flees personal danger/persecution and seeks refuge in another ‘safe’ country then the alleged asylum seekers that are ‘warehoused’ on Manus island are not refugees at all, they are economic country shoppers and rightly called illegal immigrants. They are que jumpers who are cheating those that apply to imigrate here through legal means.
They first made landfall in Indonesia where they would be safe, but have chosen to pay people smugglers to get them to Australian soil where the Australian government is a soft touch; refugees receive way superior benefits than they would have in Indonesia, Australia is a desirable target for those that can afford it. If there is violence on Manus, it’s the illegals perpetrating it. If there are children on Manus, it’s the illegals choosing to have them or bringing them on a dangerous sea journey with Manus as the predictable outcome. Illegals choices are NOT Australia’s fault.
Australia has a very generous humanitarian refugee intake; these illegal immigrants pay to jump the que. Refugees who obey the Australian requirements are shuffled backwards. There is almost no press regarding the refugees who use the correct channels to immigrate but face delays due to these que jumpers. Furthermore, the illegal’s attempts to blackmail Australian authorities with self-harm and various other manoeuvres that the Australian press laps up, do we want this manipulation here? It’s time Australia calls Indonesia to task. Stop the people smugglers at Indonesian shores where they first make landfall and are safe.
On a similar tangent, many Australian mainland country towns don’t have the medical services: patient ratio that are available to the illegal immigrants on Manus, allegedly 1:14. Why are Australian nationals medical needs considered less than illegal immigrants, by the Australian government?

How does this become Australias fault? - We have clearly stated that no illegal undocumented boat people will ever be settled on Australias shores; yet individuals who have reached a 'safe' country (Indonesia) still choose to pay people smugglers to transport themselves and their children on unsafe boats to a more favorable economic country (Australia) despite the dangers and Australias clearly stated position on their re-settlement. What about self responsibility and consequences for your own choices? Australia cannot be all things to all people.
